    Puma factory radio

    Hi team

Has anyone replaced the factory radio in their Puma and now have this and PIN ‘surplus to requirements’?

I am looking for an original Land Rover unit to install in my Td5 as the original radio is slowly dying.

    Cheers - Simon

Thanks Grappler, unfortunately my mailbox was full so I didn’t receive your PM. Have cleared it now so if you could resend that would be great!

I also have but looks if you are ok. I took mine out due to a crappy land rover radio I put a Kenwood in its' place and I get much better reception when the original would not work.

Ok I have my ‘new’ 2012 Puma radio and looked Puma factory radio at installing it this morning in the Td5.

Unsurprisingly the plugs are quite different.

Am sure I read somewhere on here that there is an adapter cable that will fix the problem available from one of the regular accessory outlets...

    Standard Td5 plug

    New 2012 Puma plug...

And this cable was in the box...

Has anyone had experience swapping these units? Is there an adapter available off the shelf, or do I need a trip to my local sparkie?

    Thanks in advance.

I'd start with a call to your nearest car sound place, they usually have an extensive catalogue of the things.
I've used my local Car Sound a couple of times. You will need to give them the make, model and part number of the old and new units.

Aerpro seem to make most of the adapter cables that are available - Link to site Landrover Defender 2007-2015 | Aerpro

The factory cable on the later Pumas is a native cable to suit Alpine headunits and looks like the white plug on this cable Alpine CDE-133EBT | Aerpro

If the adapter cable above fits you are good. The Aerpro site says that the cable in the second link works for a range of Landrovers with single DIN radios such as Disco 2 and Freelander as well as Defenders

The other way to fix it would be to splice the connector that comes with the radio into the TD5 harness which should not be too difficult.

    Thanks Tote

I was looking at those in Supercheap yesterday, but they had a pretty limited range. I called my local auto sparkie and it was all a little hard for him, he wanted to see circuit diagrams but I can find any for the Puma.

If it was me I'd order the connector cable that they suggest (or if you can find it locally pick one up) and take a punt that it fits, if the plugs work the wiring should be good. The manual for the head unit should have the wiring diagram in it, if not I can probably fined one from one of my Alpine units.
