Are genuine Land Rover replacement gearboxes new or reconditioned?

I have a 2007 Defender with the MT82 6-speed gearbox, and trying to find out if the Land Rover replacement part is totally new or a reconditioned unit. I haven't had much luck ringing up Land Rover dealers for an answer. Does anybody know what the situation is please?

    Cheers

There is no stock avail of the new units

    Land Rover UK
    No stock of Recos
No Stock of new , It's a case of putting and order in and waiting which could take 2 months or a year or more, in other word don't hold your breath on a factory one.

Don’t Ford use that box in other vehicles,eg,Mustang, but I suppose it may be slightly different and have different ratios?

That’s pretty poor form, none around at all.

Ford Mustang box is common only in name. The bell is different (accepts a 11" clutch v 10.5" for LR), the ratios are very different. If i recall Mustang first is not much shorter than LR second and the OD is very tall for a 4wd. Ford Ranger has the same ratios but uses a larger main shaft. Thus the gears are not interchangeable with LR box. Same with the Transit version (different main shaft). How i know? i had to rebuild a MT82 and tried to steal parts from the Ford box. Not sure if the bell on the Ranger is the same as LR, i would assume so as it would be stupid to have a modular platform and not use the same box bell. The tail housing is removable so i assume you could use a Ranger box with LR tail housing.

I'm grateful to have a spare MT82 under the house.

That was answered in Roverlords response.

    remanufacturered LR039149, NEW LR033342

So if you want new order LR033342, if you are happy with remanufactured/recon then order LR039149.

    Possibly,maybe not,but not one around?
    Not even a rebuild somewhere?

THe old Defender was always at the bottom of LR's pecking order,so maybe they are not interested even in supplying parts?

What about Ashcroft? I'm sure their gear boxes are better built and by people who care and know what they're doing
