Head Gasket Failure on 2014 D4

    After a bit of advice regarding a head gasket failure on a 2014 D4 TDV6 at 150,000km

Has just failed on my nephews car of course just out of 3 month statutory warranty

I have heard of motors failing but not head gaskets.

Any one else heard of it?

Is it a precursor to something else?

Wasn't covered by after market warranty even though dealer indicated the whole car was covered until 200,000km

Will more than likely be going to VCAT over it as there was a clear verbal contract - even the dealer principal agreed this was said, but is now indicating that he cant be held responsible for what his salesman said.

In addition it is my belief that the head gasket must have been in the process of failing prior to this - head gaskets don't just immediately fail??

    Welcome some opinion or information.

    Cheers

Sorry to hear about your nephews predicament. Is the head gasket failure diagnoses definite? I ask, as I've been told by a local indy that head gasket failures on these motors are extremely rare.

Head Gasket Failure on 2014 D4

Agree with Dagilmo above. The only reason you’d get that with these engines is if it had a catastrophic coolant leak and the driver ignored the alarm of low coolant and kept driving. Others have thought they had a blown head gasket and it’s turned out to be other things. If this diagnosis wasn’t from a Land Rover specialist I’d be sceptical.

    Thanks for the responses

    Landrover dealer diagnosed and repaired

    Thought they were rare.

Went in with ticking noise and power loss.

No catastrophic coolant loss on my nephews watch.

Sounds like damage was done prior.

    Aftermarket warranty

Tell them there was a radiator fault which caused car to overheat and blew head gasket.

    Saga ended up good.

Service department would not cover under after market warranty or statutory warranty (two weeks out of three month statutory warranty).

Discussion with Dealer Principle resolved the matter with all money paid refunded in full (over $4K).

Split turbo hoses also replaced at same time with no cost.

New Defender provided as loan car while car was repaired

    Jaguar Landrover dealer in Vic.
