I have been reading the Discovery L462 thread and don't see any reliability and warranty issues raised by owners. Most issues seem to be owner related use of the sound/entertainment system , which looks to be more personal than problematic.

So , my question ....has LR actually got things right with this vehicle?

I have had an opportunity to go around a "test" track demonsrtating it's suspension flexing and climb capabilities and was initially impressed with it's ease of driving/comfort .

Just wondering if this vehicle is way underrated by LR critics or no one is giving it a decent run out bush.

It's real pity I can't take one out to my stamping grounds of the last 20-30yrs and have never seen one out bush. Seems like a bit of a secret squirrel to me.

Can anyone direct me to a good unbiased road test of the Disco.....anything can go down the bitumen but how about several weeks across SA's desert roads?

Power & torque are awesome.

I have done some off road which i would rate as mid difficulty - did it no problems.

Bigger than D4 or Defender and better to drive than D4.

Twin turbo 225 kw 700 Nm is a big step up from D4 or 2017 model D5's

Fuel economy is great and currently running at about 8.7 with 275 ridge grapplers on.

Two regrets - should have bought white not black.

There are no aftermarket accessories for it - would like to fit a winch for piece of mind.

Mine has the internal tailgate which folds out when main tailgate is open - so you can sit & be under cover at the same time.

Mine has been Great, twin turbo V6, towing is effortless have had a niggle fault with the DPF filter blocking due to a crook MAF sensor, hammered it on some rough roads in November, there are some aftermarket options out there for example rock sliders, winch mount, nudge bay, driving lights that fit in the grill, 2nd battery kits, Liams suspesion kit just to name a few.

The only thing i can suggest is do not touch the 4 cylinder engine there has been a high number of engine failures above what you would expect.

I'm happy to be corrected, but when I pulled up alongside one in the car park it seemed a bit smaller, and no it wasn't a sport!

I have an MY22 HSE D300 and do not share the other comments which may be on earlier versions. After some 5000kms odd, the new inline 6 D300 is really good. Strong, effectively no turbo lag and good economy - about 7 in town and 18 towing ~3.2 tonne. Quiet and comfy. However it is now off the road for a few months with some 31/2 pages of warranty issues - some niggling and others major safety concerns. The biggest issue is that the dealer tells me JLR now has a policy of using only sea freight for parts - hence the wait. Totally unacceptable IMO. CRC tells me they are no longer for customers, just for dealer support.
Car has never been off road yet and just run in (3000kms needed). Issues with suspension (no shock absorbers in the country!), transmission, brakes, cameras, safety warnings and so on. My lawyers now have it on board.
Shame as IMO it is (subject to quality and customer service) the best tow vehicle out there with high payload.
JLR under Ford made massive quality improvements in a very short time, but if this one is an example of quality and customer service under Tata it is a real worry for the brands.

I have taken it on dusty, corrugated roads and tough, steep High Country tracks. I tow a roughly 2 tonne camper trailer.

I love it. The power and torque are fantastic, especially towing. The ride is beautiful, but a little firmer than the D4. This improves the handling on bitumen.

Bugger, what sort of issues? info centre, engine faults as the D300 has not been out long interesting to see what develops. as for shock absorbers would have thought they would have stayed the same as early models as that is one thing that has not come up before.

Interesting on the shipping as waiting for a screw that they lost on last service for air cleaner housing and new LED headlights. car still can be used.

Hi Ramblingboy. I am on my second D5. First on was a HSE TDV6 and we continually had issues with the car going into, limp mode. this was mainly whilst towing my caravan(zone venture 20.6) whilst using cruise control, bit unsettling if there is a tripple or quad up yr rear. Understand there is now an upgrade that has solved this software problem. I thought this was a bit dangerous and changed to the new one.

my second one, 2020 SDV6 HSE, fitted with an ECB bull bar. At this stage the sensors do not work, nor does the self park button. they seem to be connected. waiting for spares.????
my forward radar unit, for ACC works sometimes, when not working the CC does not work. they are also connected. has been into the dealers approx. 6 times, they have replaced everything, still not working.
I suspect loose wires or something not connected properly. Again maybe due to the bull bar being fitted. Will probably end up taking it to a Auto electrician who knows about LR and get him to spend a couple of hours backtracking the wiring. ????

would i buy a new one, probably, yes, although my, so called, mates have all ordered the new 300 series and suggest I get one. Have driven a VX, bit industrial, not a sophisticated as the D5.

No issues with the engine - seems really good, strong and good economy. Car is comfy and quiet. Best tow car around IMO.......BUT..... issues summary:
Failure of AEB system - happens for no discernable reason and over-rides driver input.
Forward collision warnings for no apparent reason
Bad transmission(?) vibration when towing with any amount of throttle load
Suspension failure
Suspension changes height whilst travelling on a highway - no driver input & goes into offroad 1+2 mode combined.
EBA and LKA disable periodically
Low battery warnings
Blind spot assist works inconsistently.
Reversing camera gives incorrect vision or none at all.
Few others more minor.

Dealer tells me that JLR would not even airfreight for a guy who was stranded - don't know details. Apparently everything must be sea freight.
Dealer says it cannot look at other issues until shock error is cleared on their system.
