Adblue use towing van

Currently travelling with friend who has 2019 sdv6 towing 3tonne van. Travelling at average speed of 90-100K. Use over 2800k is 23 litres of adblue, equates to 122km per litre. Dealer says it’s normal. Price here in Kalgoorlie is $60 for 10 l container. All this plus difficulty of filling, it’s very slow, is enough to steer one towards a Toyota. Anyone had this experience / comments.

I talked today with a SDV6 D5 owner towing a van( what are the odds two Loire Blue LR's next to one another in Katherine??) who is very happy with his choice,, I think I'd work on the fill issue--

Trucks use the exact same stuff... most big truck stops pump it...

As pedro says, truck stops pump it and they all pump it slowly so I cant see why it couldn't be pumped directly into the car , but, I havent seen the location of where it gets filled on a D5.
At the pump it's been around the $2.45 to 2.80 depending on where I have fuelled up. That's worth the experiment when hes paying $6 a ltr.
It seems it works on a ratio of fuel burnt so the figures should be comparable to normal use, although in saying that we have 1 truck in our yard that seems to drink far more than the rest , but apparently its within the manufacturer recommended limits.

Hi Peter,

I use about 300Km per liter when towing my Zone van at around the same speed. Does drink more when going up & down hills and less on the straight.

I refill a 15ltr container at my local Shell or Puma garage. I use a small magnetic coupling which goes around the end of the pump nozzle and this enable me to fill the container.

price varies between $1.50 to $1.99 per ltr.

I then decant into 3 x 2ltr containers which came with my D5 and pour this straight into the fitting under the bonnet.

I suspect that the AdBlue filler on the D5 was designed by the work experience kid. Like the tow bar on a Discovery 3...

If you try to fill it on the flat at anything beyond a dribble it burps and blows back continually. First time I did it it took over an hour and a half to get 15 litres in via a funnel. I would not even try to use the pump at a servo.

To fill mine I have learnt to park the car with the front higher than the rear - the higher the better - and I use a portable electric pump - the ones that look like the old syphon pumps but use a battery - so I do not have to hold a 10 litre drum up in the air. It still takes a while...

I tow just under two tonnes - I have no interest in towing three tonnes anywhere - and my AdBlue consumption is way higher than not towing, but it is nothing like one litre per one or two hundred kilometres.

not sure if you know they exist.
I go to truck stops and fill a 10L plastic jerry. I then fill using a proper adblue funnel that has a breather hose built in. Much faster and no mess.
