    Defender 300 tdi gear stick problem

    The gearstick on my 1996 Defender has gone really sloppy and first and second gear seem to have moved 200mm to the left

    Reverse gear is impossible to find, I'm about to investigate by removing the gearstick assembly to have a look but not sure what I'm looking for. Can't find much info on google

    The spring with the pin running through it isn't broken as suggested by M R Automotive

    I had some silicate the other year, from memory there was a grub screw that held a shaft in place had come loose.

    I pulled the top cover off.

    A forum member helped me over the phone while o was stuck on the side of the road.

    That was exactly the problem with this one, so an easy fix

    I treated it to two new gear knobs also, it now changes gear like never before
