2010 TDV8 right hand valve / cam cover / inlet manifold replacement

I recently replaced the right-hand (driver's side) valve/cam cover/inlet manifold on my 2010 3.6L TDV8.
My notes and comments for anyone considering a similar task.


I purchased a whole replacement cover/manifold beforehand (comes with a new gasket and new bolts), as prior to disassembly I could not tell if it was a crack in the cover that was causing the oil leak or the gasket leaking. Once I got it apart, it looked like the cover was fine, just a gasket issue.
- the rubber gasket had gone pretty hard.
I replaced the whole thing anyway. It was a Chinese special from eBay for around $250. Search for LR005274.
Not sure if I will regret using a Chinese special - I've heard that they are made from thinner plastic than genuine items. I didn't think to check this when I had it apart. Time will tell. Hopefully, I am not going find myself pulling it apart again a year or 2. We shall see.

I purchased the special tool for removing the injectors - but didn't end up needing to use it. They came out by hand with no problems.
eBay special around $50. Search for 303-1127

Have a look at the manual before attempting - relevant PDFs for a 2010 TDV8 L320 are attached.

Removed the airbox and ducting entirely. Removed some of the ABS stuff. Undid the plenum and moved it over. Removed the brake vacuum pump. Removed the metal injector cover. Removed the dipstick tube. Disconnected each Injector electrical connector, Undid each pipe at the fuel rail and removed each Injector return line clip. Marked and removed each injector.
Cleaned the outside of each injector with acetone.
To get the injector return line clips off without losing them - held a flexible Magnetic Pick-Up Tool against the clip with one hand and pried the clip out with a small screwdriver with the other.

I put the new cover/gasket on dry after cleaning the surface it bolts to.

Did not need to undo an engine mount or anything like that on the 2010 L320 TDV8. All four injectors came out with no problem.

Parts to consider ordering beforehand:

LR005274 - right-hand valve cover - my Chinese special came with gasket and bolts
LR032818 - Injector copper washers - need 4.
LR019118 - Injector return line o-ring - need 4.
1331260C - Injector return line clip - in case you lose some
LR004688 - Dipstick o-ring. need 2.
LR002456 - Injector pressure pipe clip. need 2. rubbers had perished in mine.
LR007738 - Dipstick Grommet. Holds the dipstick to the metal injector cover.
LR014468- Air Duct Elbow. This is tight Elbow between the plenum and each intake manifold.

I tend to use Island 4x4 for parts.

It took me a while to get around to it too.
Eventually got sick of oil on the driveway.
A surprisingly small amount of diesel oil can make quite a stain.

I have the same TDV8 and am about to org the replacement of the oil/fuel cooler (leaking like a trooper) and do a whole lot of other work while the top end is pulled apart - thermostat housing and assoc hoses, egr blank/remap, rocker cover gaskets etc etc

Reading your post from Oct 2022 when you did the RHS rocker cover gasket

You mentioned the mtnce manual and provided copies of a few pages - any idea where I can buy this mtnce manual - I have one for an earlier 2007 TDV8 I had but cannot find where to buy the manual you mention for my 2010 model

Also, any guidance on where to source part numbers would also be appreciated

i mainly just use the 2005-2009 one as its a nicer format and all in one with better instruction, its mainly the body and some electrics thats different with 2010
