What is this part that fell off my Discovery 5?

    Good morning all,

Can anyone tell me what is the part shown in the attached photo? I found it on my driveway under the rear of my Discovery 5.

    Many thanks,

Looks like a tow hitch locking pin.

I'd be EXTREMELY surprised if that was a part of a Discovery, unless you have some aftermarket stuff on it... That doesn't look OEM.

Agreed, definitely not off a D5. It looks like the pin from one of those spring loaded trailer catches ,the split pin is to the hold the washer that keeps the spring in place.

Can't be. It's still in one piece.

Thank you all for your input. As it happened, I visited my local LR dealer today and asked about my mysterious part. Service bloke declared it is not a Discovery part, much to my relief.

It does look like a tow hitch pin but it’s too skinny, nothing like the pin on my D2 tow hitch. It remains a mystery but I’m much relieved that my new-to-me Discovery is not falling apart.

If I find out what it is, I’ll report back.

Maybe it was thrown up off the road, got stuck somewhere under your car, and then fell off in the garage?

    Cheers
