    D4 Lower Tailgate Not Opening

    Hi
    Lower Tailgate button does nothing.
    Upper is fine.
I can manually open as shown in previous threads.

Is there any known reasons for lower tailgate problem, ie; Is it the button, or actuator?
Any advise is much appreciate before I start pulling door apart.
    Thanks
    Cheers Vin

The actuator for the upper door plays up regularly, so my guess would be the actuator. It's not difficult to get at them so check power supply at the actuator before replacing. Search the forum for tips as there is a less expensive replacement available with a little bit of modification.
    Good luck with it.

The external switch is more prone to failure it has two small wires one-off which was broken in my case. My money would always be on that.

On the D3 the upper door can be forced to open by pushing the dash lock and unlock buttons together for a few seconds. You’ll need a friend to open it or it will pop into the safety position.

The actuator seems incredibly resilient other than the broken catch problem which seems to be non existent anymore.

On mine by the time I cleaned enough wire back to good metal there was not enough length to connect a new switch without removal of the entire handle assembly.

This will introduce you to the spinning retainer nut problem that you’ll spend a while figuring out.

Nice. Mine has been the actuator twice now. Still on the original switch, though it feels old now, but I’m not willing to deal with spinning things to bother replacing it

I figure it’ll self combust soon enough.
