    2016 / 2017 MY Change Question

Hello - guys - my first post. Thanks to AULRO and members for a great forum - a wealth of information and experience for sure.

I've had many LR's in the past - Series 1 Disco 2 x Series 2 Discos, 130 Tdi, 130 Puma and a L322 v8 diesel - Left the brand a few years ago (long story about parts availability out west....) but looking to come back now and jump into a V8 Diesel L405. We really liked the L322, it just ate up those long country miles with ease.

A question if I may, I see that the 2016 models had a slightly larger fuel tank and no DEF then in 2017 the fuel tank capacity was reduced and an 18l DEF tank added. With the addition of the DEF after treatment was any emission control equipment changed (deleted on the engine. Or did LR just add more emissions "stuff" to the vehicles. I'm no fan of EGR valves and was hoping this may have been ditched with the addition of DEF.

I also note that the sdV8 has 350mm front brake rotors and that there is a 19 inch rim option. I saw in another post that here that seems to indicate that a 20in rim was about as small as would fit - is that correct?

    Thanks and Regards,

    Steve

The EGR valve is still fitted but it is possible to have it mapped-out. At least the e-diff is standard for MY17 onwards 4.4 SDV8.

Even if a 19" rim can be fitted, there are many options in 275/55R20 whereas almost only the GG AT3 in 255/60R19.

Thanks Graeme - much appreciated. Any trustworthy "mappers" in Brisbane Area.

I did have our LC 200 down at ROO Systems head workshop many moons ago and for better or for worse it was faultless for many years until we sold the car.

Yes after tyre surfing a while the R20 do seem to be an option with a lot of options.

Shopping for rims however - oh my - what a slippery slope that is! About 1 million too many choices!

Roo Systems have done L405 SDV8 remaps previously. My L322 EGR delete + upgrade to SDV8 performance was done locally late afternoon with the mapping changes done in the UK while I waited.

Best to get discarded L405 or L494 rims to be sure they're strong enough.

Not many rims are load rated to LR specs,, and offset is critical.
There should be a pic in the L494 Forum of rim markings.

Steve my L405 was done at Roo - a few years ago now; have to be honest that performance improvement wasn’t that noticeable (not that I’m fussed - it’s bloody fantastic to drive) cheers

Graeme, I have a MY16 105ltr fuel, SDV8… (pre add blue) what is the effect / benefit of mapping out the EGR?

    TIA

My reasons were to stop the frequent fouling of the MAP sensor which caused performance issues, get rid of the throttle delay which I had already proven with the temporary installation of a blanking plate and to stop exhaust gas from the EGR cooler adding heat to the oil cooler hoping that the gaskets would survive better. I also expect keeping the air intake (donut) unclogged to have performance or economy benefits. My driving is mostly using light throttle so normally lots of EGR.
Noting that my 4.4 TDV8 L322 also had a minor power increase up to that of the L405 SDV8, the ability to now get off the mark breaking into traffic is most welcomed, yet it's abilty to meander along tracks on light throttle has improved, notably when more throttle is applied.

Thanks Graeme. I haven’t been able to find any posts here or google about EGR on the 4.4 L405 so wondering if LR has modified it from the L322.
