An Australian YouTube Clip about Rebuilding Holden Stromberg Single Barrel Carburetto

    Hello All,

I recently found a YouTube clip about how to rebuild a Holden Stromberg carburettor. Rob Teale from Western Australia, has made a video dedicated to these carburettors. I will be watching it again while I sit at my work table and reassemble a carburettor and put a kit through it. Hopefully the flooding that was previously happening was due to an incorrect float level and the flooding will get sorted out. The video is accessed through Understand and overhaul a Stromberg carburettor. - YouTube

Thank you Rob for making and posting such a thorough and informative video on the Holden Strombergs. Rob and Deb have a YouTube channel called Rob's Shed that features the restoration of old cars - with an International truck thrown into the mix. Accessed via Rob's Shed - Car Restoration Techniques - YouTube

A significant amount of time lapsed between my first watching the video and my getting the opportunity to work on a carburettor. This was a mistake. I should have watched the video again just before I was taking the carburettor apart. I might have avoided the float spring launching itself somewhere into space as it accelerated past my right ear! Rob did manage to find the errant spring clip during his video. A replacement spring clip for them is worth $6.00 plus postage.... ... You know - when it is one of those occasions where the price of postage is worth nearly three times more than the single item you need to buy ... ask me how I know this fact... sigh!

    Kind regards
    Lionel

    Hello Slunnie,

Was I the Lionel that Rob talks about? Guilty as charged and my motivations follow...

I did do extensive searches on the internet and on YouTube on how to rebuild a Holden Stromberg single barrel carburettor. The results of these searches were ... I found absolutely zip.

Okay, I should clarify the point ... rebuild videos particularly focussing on Holden - Bendix Stromberg carburettor= zip. There were a number of videos about Stromberg 97 carburettors. See IronTrap Garage an American Hot Rod channel - accessed 10/09/23 from, How To Rebuild A Stromberg 97 Carburetor - Tips & Tricks - YouTube

In an earlier video Rob Teale mentioned something about viewers providing suggestions regarding possible new content. I thought it might be an opportunity for myself and other people who were in the dark about working on the Holden - Bendix Stromberg carburettors. So, I posted a request for some new content on the channel and not very long after that Rob Teale made the video.

A word of caution about buying special tools for the Holden Bendix Stromberg's. The majority of 'special' Stromberg carburettor tools advertised on eBay are for the Stromberg 97 - not the Holden Bendix Stromberg carburettors. The 97 tool's blades are too broad for the Holden brass plugs. Equals ... "Not Happy - Jan!"

Where are my standard screwdrivers that another YouTube channel recommended viewers not to use. This is because standard screwdrivers are not the correct size either and they can easily damage the brass plugs. So, what wound up happening was the recommended ''special' Stromberg tools sat on the bench and the non-recommended standard flat blade screwdrivers got the job done.

    Kind regards
    Lionel

It was an interesting clip, but the photography made it painful to watch, otherwise I'd have subscribed.
