    Disco1 1994 V8 serpentine belt

How do you find out what belt your vehicle should have?

4BEE said in a thread that his D1 took a Dayco 7PK2250 as the original 7PK2255 wasn't made anymore.

My problem is I was talking to a Landy parts supplier who said they would only be guessing even if I gave them my VIN and engine number. They wanted the number off the belt currently fitted to my car. I had a look but there doesn't seem to be one (long since worn off no doubt).

So how do I know what belt I should have?

Worst case is that you measure it's length carefully. Those sizes are obviously in mm.

    Hope this helps.

    The Master has spoken.

Still, with initials of JC, he has to be right.

Thanks. My engine number is R8131D02084B according to the rego papers. You can only actually see D02084B the rest is obscured.

Do you know why the change or what the change is?

I was thinking that but I also thought it has probably stretched

    Thanks for that JC.

They mentioned that depending on the belt the belt adjuster would be different. Why is that?
    Different tension/width/ribs?

ok found the card I sketched it on. As a bonus I also found papers showing my car was rustproofed from new.. noice..

    Anyway I can't give the full story, but here's what I have;
the serial break is up to 36D50529 & 38D32139
    then from 36D50530 & 38D32140.
(I THINK but don't know for sure, the 36 or 38 prefix may signify compression ratio, mine's 8.13)
Your engine number given doesn't match this format tho so have another check on that.

So, mine is a 38D and fell into the latter and from factory it should have been a 2248 belt (they are all 7 rib BTW).
The nearest choices available today were 2238 or 2250.
I chose 2mm longer as 10mm shorter sounded like lots of swearing.

Sorry, I cannot remember what the original belt should have been for the earlier engines. I also cannot remember if it was a Dayco or a Gates catalogue that showed the original lengths but you'd need to check a printed copy somewhere as I cannot find the same info in any e-cat.

    Hope this helps

    Thanks Oldzook.

My rego papers say the engine number is R8131D02084B but a tax invoice from Garthon Land Rover says 37D02084B.

I think the roadworthy guy read the compression ratio and engine number together and combined the two and confused the 37D for 31D

Still doesn't match what you have though. Although this thread gives me more to go on when I talk to the place again tomorrow.

Just thought I would post some prices up. Seems to be a huge difference between individual part prices.
Not too hard to pick the genuine LR quote from the bunch though.

What have people paid recently for these bits for their MA V8 Disco?

    Shop 1
    Belt $33
    Tensioner $231
    Total $264

    Shop 2
    Belt $75
    Tensioner $175
    Total $250

    Shop 3
    Belt $54
    Tensioner $258
    Total $312

    Shop 4
    Belt $90
    Tensioner $436
    Total $526

Lemme guess. Naaaah, can't pick the odd one out as they all seem very competitive to me.
