Series 1 Rear Seats

Hi all,

Any one got some rear seats for a series 1 88 that you might be willing to part with at a reasonable exchange rate - the bench or the individual ones out of a SWB station wagon - doesn't matter as long as they are genuine.

1. On the other hand the rear bench seat in the rear of the 109 S2 Wagon is the same part number as the rear bench seat in the 107 S1 Wagon (but a different number to the seat in the 86/88 S1.
2. The place to get original 86/88 S1 seats is New Zealand, they were everywhere. Have you tried the NZLROC or TradeMe the auction site in NZ http://www.trademe.co.nz

I think the difference between the 107 S1/109 S2 and the 86"/88" S1 seats is the length of the base. The design being the same but the length in the 86"/88" being longer.

You may also find that some of the seats used in the 109" S2 Military GS models may actually be the same as the 86"/88" - and very likely the same seat used in the 88" S2 Military GS.

The big differences between the two types is that the S1 bolted directly to the gal side capping while the S2 used a bracket that slipped into the holes inside the capping. It also appears that in the S1 the base was secured through a hole while in the S2 the hole was elongated into an adjustable slot.

Remember when fitting rear seats to an S1 with a canvas hood they also had the hand rails fitted to the rear capping.

Diana, ok, theis were always fitted to the 'Old Girl' for as long as I can rember. Thought they might have been ridgy diggy. There is the e-longated hole in the bottom, but no hole at the back to secure to the sidding.

You may be correct, I was just glancing between the two parts catalogues and trusting that the drawings were correct.

When I look further the fixings I assumed were to secure to the capping are actually the ones for the fixing the backrest to the frame. Sorry for the confusion. However the S2 types do have a bracket bolted to the frame that inserts into the capping.

Regarding the slotted holes. I have seen both types of holes - slotted and non-slotted and the S1 manual shows the non-slotted while the S2 manual shows the slotted one.

I have been checking into the rear seats - there are some for sale in NZ but unless I can find some locally I have decided I will make some. So - there was discussion on what they bolt too - is it the gal capping or through the aluminum tray. If it is the former, do the seats fold up to the backs or if it is the latter do the backs fold down onto the seats. I had rear seats in my series 3 and I cannot remember but I so remember that the seat frames were tube. The seats shown on an earlier post seem to made out of square tube not round tube.

Anyone got any pictures of genuine seats - in particular the seat frames.

I have a spare series 1 tub which I believe is ex military so either UK or NZ as the green colour is a different green to most series 1s I have seen - it has the handrails at the rear so this tub may have the mounting holes for the seats - just cannot check at the moment.

Any ideas or pictures of the seat frames would be appreciated.
