    Salisbury diff pinion oil seal

    G'day from stage 1 land!

I have just replaced my rear diff oil seal and learnt the hard way a few tips that might help others.

The driveshaft flange bolts are awkward and a 1/2" drive socket wont easily fit- a 3/8" one does 'tho.

I made up a "flange holding tool" from some 1" angle iron with 2 holes 2" apart and a bit ground out of the edge to clear the nut. Well worth the 30min spent making it.

The @#$%^% pinion nut is quite tight. I used (with thanks) an AULRO tip and used a bottle jack on the end of my socket drive handle- easily did it with no sweat and no barked knuckles. It is a normal right handed nut.

The old seal is difficult to get out- just bends if a gear extractor is used. I found that a small tek screw in the edge of the seal provided enough purchase for a claw hammer (thanks to David for the tip).

Dont forget to mark everything and count the turns
