your assumptions are pretty much all on the ball and no it wont upset the articulation other than make it harder for the axle to be compressed up into the chassis (which is why your fitting them in the first place)
but dont ever run the springs totally deflated always maintian a couple of psi in them.
be carefull about how you route the airlines to pressuriese them if you dont just rely on the nipple poking up through the tower mount.
dont forget to clean them out occasionally, let all the air out of them and get in there with the hose and soapy water then rinse it all thoroughly this gets rid of any of the abrasives that will rub through on the spring propper and extends the life of the bag, you might also catch any potential damage before it gets all the way through.
Im fairly sure that the longer airbag will work with shorter springs but not the other way around. Ask the supplier they'll have the numbers to help you out there.
