Why Choose a 2 or 2a

Thought i would do this thread to see what made people choose a series 2 or 2a . Is it the simplicity , the look of the rig or is it what you wanted at the time .

Personally I like the 2a because of the simplicity on the bulkhead . I'm not a big fan of the padded dash found in the series 3 onwards . I would still own a newer model but love me series 2a .

Cheap, simple and plenty of scope for mods and HEAPS of parts to make em like new.

Next project once the SIIA will be a Ute Cab on Rangie chassis for 100" coil sprung, V8 action for a tough capable weekend rig in the bush, probably running GU diffs and brakes Swampers, a real workhorse some fibre guards and bonnet to cut the weight down and look a little tougher (aka Tomcat look)

Oh, and I learnt to drive a SIIA ute Like mine when I was 8 at my grandfathers property , loved the landy ever since

In many respects they were the best Landrover - many of the shortcomings of the S1 and S2 remedied, and most of the improvements made during S3 production can be retrofitted, but they retain most of the simplicity and light weight lost with the 110 and its successors.

The big attraction is that they have a lot less plastic, the metal being a lot more durable. The gearbox is better than the all synchro one, being both more robust and simpler to repair, as well as more fun to drive.

Add to this the fact that my previous experience and hence knowledge was primarily with the Series 2 and 2a, and there was little trouble coming to a decision.

Simple, learn't to drive in a Series 2.

They are tough as & easy to work on.

I love the late 2A....head lights on the wings rather than on radiator support panel. I love the steel dash and simplicity. I even love the non synchro between 1 and 2 gear box.

I used to have a 70 model 2A SWB station wagon (English import) that I "did up". I sold it because I left the country for awhile. I will always regret doing this. Of all the Land Rover's I have owned I really miss that 2A shorty the most.

simple strong, no emmision control, non syncro gear box means that the first time someone borrows it its usually the least.

(and the wiring is soooo simple)

Hi,

I just love the austerity of it, inside and out. There was never any question of a III, all that plastic is too much. AND the way the eyes are set, close together, just makes me melt every time I look at it.
