IIA buying advice

Hi,

there is a series IIa ex Army station wagon for sale in the Riverland. I called the owner & he said it is "90% complete" but was a little vague about the details. A wagon could be good for us because we don't have a daily driver 4B at the moment.

It sounds interesting, original petrol engine, Fairey overdrive... I might go out on the weekend to look at it if the other half is willing (!).

Any traps for young players with these? We have a IIA Holden powered ute (no overdrive) but it's been reliable so I haven't really delved into it very much yet.

A genuine army 6023 census 2a Station Wagon would be a rare bird indeed and if you're not interested there would be some others who would be. Although I suspect that it is either not an ex-army vehicle or not what we understand a station wagon.

The problems with station wagons are:

• Rust in the rear (side) doors.
• Trim missing or in bad repair (all station wagons had door, ceiling and floor trim).
• broken "B" pillars.
• lots of bailey channel needing to be replaced.
• Bent, broken or rusty 5th (rear) door.

There is a lot of work getting the trim into a reasonable state of repair.

Paul is it realy a 5 door wagon? or just a hard top Long wheel base? Send me a PM, I might be able put you on track to find some of the harder to get parts

(would most likely be 109 with 3 doors total....a lot of people will refer to them as station wagon because of length...if not look for census plates etc...)
(see REMLR pages of info...brilliant rsource to be armed with BEFORE you go....) if he gave you a year you could always print out info you wanted to double check.....just a thought...best way of all Ive found, is to do what exactly youve done...ask here....cheers!

**PS abt 3 months ago I looked at an alleged ex military LWB with a mate at RENMARK, bloke was full of stories about how it was
ex army and used by this and that mob....abt 2 minutes after looking at it, it was obvious it hadnt ever been military!

It was red underneath and inside under seat was a stamped PMG number (post master generals) so it was actually something to do with postal departments here...or maybe telephone as they did them too.....was a 69 or 70.....anyway just to be wary coz this one has been roughly sprayed olive drab (actually olive semi gloss!)

Unfortunately it looks like I won't be able to follow up this opportunity ..If anyone else is interested, you can find the ad by searching "series IIA" at the Trading Post website.

From my discussions with the seller, it really does have 5 doors.
