Get a sat nav!
Seriously though, I just don't like the look of the UBD, but melway's is very pricey these days.
I need a new map book for the car and was horrified by the price of Melways. A Melbourne UBD map book is less than half the price but is it as good ?
I'm not trying to find Melways references, usually just trying to find my way to a known address or figure out an alternative route so I'm sure it will do the job. I don't need a satnav (before someone suggests it) but wondered if there is any reason to pay all that extra for 'Melways' ??

Depends on how good your eyes are. The last time I looked the UBD had a different scale which meant more of an area fitted on the one page. Better if you are travelling a long distance but harder on the eyes. I got annoyed with UBD years ago when the directory had a street missing that I just happened to need to go to (it was on old street). When I rang to complain and inform them of the mistake they told me they already new and it was too bad for me. My Melways lives under the seat and the Sat Nav takes me where I need to go.

Pretty much horses for courses, I find the Melway easier to use.
They are more invaluable than a GPS unit IMHO.
On ABC regional today there was an interview with a Copper from Bright,(I think), who was saying that in the last 6 weeks there have been 2 City Slickers Goegrahicly embarrased by their GPS telling to go down 4WD tracks and getting them stuck.
Or the question could of been, who uses a Melways, Sydways or Brisways over a UBD, and what advantages are there between the two ?
Why not purchase the Melways CD and load it into the GPS Navigator
Don't know about Melbourne, but I always used a UBD over a Gregorys in Sydney, and in Brisbane, UBD took over the local Refidex decades ago, although you wouldn't know it talking to locals.Never had a problem using any of them really.

It has to be a Melways!!!!!
When I first started dating my now wife she had a UBD. That combined with her poor navigation skills started many an argument.
I stopped at a servo one day and threw it in the bin and brought a Melways. Heaps better!!
Melways for me as well.
I guess by the amount of people saying Melways is the reason they can charge so much!!![]()
