    house boat uk

Hi all, I am being dragged across to london because wife's best friend has had a baby boy . so i have to baby sit our little fellow. I was not all that happy because last year i saved some leave so i could do a desert drive from ayres rock to port headland via the tenamin trail. But a bad thing has turned into a good thing as we have decided to get a house boat and go through the locks. sweet, a bit of practice of tying up.

So my question is, has any one done this before, any suggestions of where to go and whats the best spot to do it thanks all.

Well a great deal depends on where in the UK you are on the water, as there is the Norfolk Broads, the Great/Grand Manchester Canal, the western part of the Thames ..........I could go on forever with the number of inland water ways and rivers.......

As I was a southerner - I used the Thames mostly - from Richmond heading out towards Windsor - great pubs along the way.

Around the Oxford area there are some excellent waterways.

Get yourself a copy of 'Three men in a boat', also on dvd, but not as good as the original.

    fatcat,
years ago i did the cheshire ring with the folks.
went through manchester on the way and took about one week.
we got half way only to find a tree across the canel blocking the route, most people turned back but not us. trapsed across fields to a main road, hitched a lift to town and hired a chainsaw. went back and using a manouverable boat chopped up the tree and continued on our way...
