there was a thread about a number of engines needing to be changed out in the early ones........might want to check it out
Hi everyone,
Just wondering if there is any reason to purchase a 09MY Defender over a 2008 registered 07MY. From what I've heard the vehicles are identical and no changes have been made to the new model. That correct?
I have also been told that there is not distinction between the two on the build plate (it came from a dealer, sounds fishy to me!) so, apart from any updates to the 09MY, there is not much reason to hold out for the 09MY which will be here next month. Any opinions?
Also, being identical vehicles would there be much difference in the resale value between an 07MY and 09MY? I am thinking yes but if the above is true I suppose not.
Considering the abve .. should I rather negotiate hard for a significant discount on an 07MY (considering the new ones are arriving in the next three weeks) or rather go for the 09MY? The difference in delivery is around 4 weeks.
Over to the panel ...

i agree, take the 09 one. It is almost certain to have less issues.
It will also have the later design engine, and presumably the non axle contacting sump.

Hi Pumaboy,
Are you sure the car you've been looking at is an 07 model?
It's just that since January 2008, they've all been 2008 models through here (Parra). Check the VIN to be sure.
SALLDHMS77A = 2007
SALLDHMS78A = 2008

I was under the impression they were all 07MY until the new release?
mmmm not sure what you mean by a later design engine has far as i was aware they just had a batch of bad engines, the same as they had to try and quaratine a bad batch of gearboxes at one point.
but a later car will have any warrenty work done like breather relocation, sump pan changed, a frame bracket etc etc....
Our Land Rover does not leak oil! it just marks its territory.......
I think there was a change to the oil sprayers for the pistons implemented on the later ones, but not certain.
