    LPG ???

    I have a 97 V8 3.9L Disco and am thinking of having LPG but not sure if it is worth doing, the pro's are cheaper price at the pump but iv'e been told the tank has to be inside taking up room and is only good for about 300km is that correct?? also heard that LPG burns quicker than fuel.
    So is it really worth doing if any-one has it done and made a big saving and if the tank can fit under instead of inside? Thanks.....

    hey mate, covered a few times, try a search for more info.
    answers to your q's.

    you can have tanks installed under the rear of the car and a smaller petrol tank fitted (about 50L). This reduces your clearance a little bit for off-roading.

    economy wise expect about 20% increase in consumption but that is quickly offset by LPG being nearly 1/3rd the price of petrol.

    I have a 2000 Discovery on LPG. I get about 350km from 70L of LPG. Thats 12cents per km for fuel cost assuming 60cents /L for gas which is current price today.

    Prior to conversion I was doing about 500km from 85L of petrol, at a price of $1.50/L thats about 25cents per km. So in essence, its half the price per km to run on LPG. Thats a big saving!

    If you average 20,000kms a year, my petrol costs would be $5000, my LPG costs would be $2400.

    Thats a saving of $2600 a year!

    I was out of pocket $3050 for my LPG install so I will recoup the costs in a little over 14 months.

    Now there are some small variables - like the car starts on petrol with my install and runs on petrol until warm - so you still use a bit of petrol, but even with a payback of say 18 months, i am happy!

    All of this depends on if you plan to keep your car for at least the next 18 or so months so you can get the payback and then the savings!

    Basically what Andrew said above.

    I had tanks under the vehicle on my D1, it was great, and because they were scuba type x 2 they didn't extend below the normal height of the vehicle - so no loss of ground clearance.

    It was a great system, great ecconomy. No issues with it at all.

    The smaller fuel/petrol tank was suffice.

    It was recommended to me that every 4 th or 5th tank of LPG you should run one tank of petrol - to assist with upper head lubrication or something.

    As` above for me but I now have mine inside.
    3 scuba flat tanks on rear floor. I loose 8inches in load space in terms of hight and 3/4 of floor. I still have plenty of room and have all the petrol range for long range.
    running costs are halved.
    Probably be easier to sell should zI decide to do so.

    This is my scuba set up.I have the three cylinders for capacity of 60ltrs useable approx 55ltrs.I just put the board across them screwed it down and supported the over hang with another piece of board.I store my socket set,Toolbox and a drag chain under there.

    Bruce Davis in Sydney Does an injected gas system for these vehicle. I'm not sure where you live but he may be interesting to talk to becase he uses 2 small tanks under the drivers and passenger seats and get quite good performance out of them. I have an 85 V8 county with terrier 4.4 motor fully loaded and is cheaper to run than the mate Desiel Land Cruiser unloaded!
