    We Love Scats

Spent the day looking at various 4wd's for a mate to replace his 4BD1 County. We searched high and low from modded Zooks, shorty Mavericks to Cruisers to Paj's to bloody to many cars to mention, then we saw the ad for a Daihatsu Scat, drove out in the middle of bloody nowhere to discover it, took it for a run, it goes like a rocket, so he bought it.

Anyone had any experience with them before? It's like a series but smaller and quicker, even has the vent.

My mate has a Scat,he,s had it for about 20 years,he comes out wheeling all the time.It has a welded rear and Detriot front,2.8 diesel and muddies.Another mate (who used to own the "Mogrover")and I have LJ50's with Lockrights front and rear.We all have other 4x4s but have a lot of fun in these. No way an LJ50 could replace my 130 though! The Scat has ample power with 2.8 Diesel and reasonable economy, offroad performance is decent (no match for a 110 in standard trim though) fairly robust driveline but very hard to get lockers for.
P.S if you saw the dodgy suspension geometry on the one Roothy drove last year at TuffTruck it'd be no surprise it did what it did,the passenger rear wheel just drove right under the truck The rear housing was severely bent before that as well.

Diahatsu being part of Toyota, share a few things. Some parts can be hard to get but they are a fairly straight forward machine. You could describe them as a either a "premature 40 series cruiser" or a Suzuki in Sumo training
