    Ha! It never works out!!

I bought a new Husqvarna whipper snipper over six months ago, I wanted a straight shaft and specifically told the salesman I required the provision to put a metal blade on it to clear heavy undergrowth.

I've worn out the string line head and decided to invest in that metal blade today, removed the string line and find a standard 3/8 LH thread - all good. Then removed the rest of the string line assembly to find a god damned hexagonal boss [as distinct from the normal required circular boss] bloody engraved with "not compatible with metal blades".

So I've been done out of $300. Nice.

This'll put me in a crap mood for several weeks

Anything is possible, and yeah I entertained the thought of modding one. But do I want it whizzing around at 14,000 rpm near my ankles

I would take it back and make a scene. Ask him and the manager / owner if he knows what the hell he was selling.
However for $300 I would have thought you would have been hard pushed to get one with that capability. Our Honda cost nearly $700.

This guy said that "all straight shaft cutters can take a metal grass blade".

I'm about to give them a ring, but I can't see them taking back an engine that has done around 12 hours...

Maybe they sell a blade to fit, I have a Husky that has a metal blade and line trimmer. It has the hex bit there are some adapters to fit the blade.

    Cheers
