    300tdi into Series 2a

    Gday,

Just wondering if this has been done. I am thinking of using a 2.5 tdi diesel in the series 2a for the cape york trip. I would use the 5 speed as well. Are the 300tdi geatboxs different between the disco and defenders.

Its certainly been done. I would think that too much loud pedal would eat the series 2A gearbox. Dont know if it would be possible to use a 200tdi box.

I was under the impression that the 200tdi and 300tdi's had different bolt patterns and the 200 mated to the LT77, and 300 to the R380.

Perhaps the bellhousings, clutch etc can be swapped???
    Cheers

I thought of just using a 200tdi with a 5 speed. Would be fine. Just have to find one. Whats the story between the discovery and defender bellhousings on the 200 and 300tdis.

Talk to Justin Cooper on this forum.

I know he knows of an 88' Series III with a 300 Tdi and running gear out of a Disco in it

    Hope this helps

Here's a couple of threads on 300tdi conversions to Series vehicles.

200tdi into a series - the easy way.

    200tdi into a petrol Series

I thought there was a good thread two or three weeks ago, but can't find it now.

With regard to the gear boxes, Defender and Discovery gear lever positions are different.

A discovery 200Tdi is a PITA to fit, the turbo dump pipe needs to be in the same place as the passenger footwell. Modifications to one or the other are needed. The defender version is MUCH easier, but they are rare.

It will probably be easier to use a 300Tdi (defender and disco are the same) and a defender R380 and t-case (as mentioned above, you need a defender box, not disco).

You will also need an LT230 T-case, unless you want to buy the ashcroft adaptor and use your series t-case?

I'm about to fit a 200Tdi from a defender into a S2 109, using the series box and transfer and rangie diff centres.

Oh,yeah. I sure know when to say 'no' don't I.

I'll let you all know how it goes...
The Isuzu 110. Solid and as dependable as a rock, coming soon with auto box😊
The Range Rover L322 4.4.TTDV8 ....probably won't bother with the remap..😈

Rrc centres - they will probably wear out 3rd gear!

Hope you like rebuilding Series gearboxes - I get the feeling they will be a repeat customer!!!
