    Question sick defender

    hi guys and gals

My 200tdi defender is blowing heaps of smoke and running what seems on 3 cylinders when i first start her in the morning then when temp is normal she runs normal all day long you can start her another 10 times threw the day and shes as good as gold
ive tryed changing cranckcase ventilator as ive found oil in my air cleaner and after putting new one on and new oil cleaner i thing she,s worse definetly getting worse .
i thoguht it could be a cracked ring or maybe a ring thats stuck but why does it come good once it gets up to normal running temp i also though because she runs so rough when i first start her it could be an injector thats leaking threw the night but that doesnt explain blue smoke that hangs around for ages before it disappearsand definetly smells like oil burning
im lost any help would be appreciated thank you
by the way shesdone 250thousand k,s been well looked aftered never goes more then 5 thousand without an oil change make sure of that.
anyway guys and girls have a great weekend whats left of it and keep loveing your landy

gday it could be something to do with the fuel system if u can get some bio diesel change your fuel filter and run a tank of it as it will clean out your tank ,lines ,pump and injectors

If you run bio diesel through it, make sure you change your fuel filter and clean out the sedimenter (if your 200tdi has one - mine was never fitted with a sedimenter) OFTEN.
As 'defmec' said, the bio will clean everything out and as a result, will clog your filter more quickly than normal. Carry a spare filter while you are driving around also, just in case!

how are your turbo oil seals, if they have had it they leak oil this can give you smokey exhaust as you are getting oil going into your inlet manifold. 250000k on the clock have you ever had the injectors done,if not you probably should it can't hurt. , let us know it what it ends up being

running rough when cold, you mentioned rings, when cold and worn they don't give a good seal against the bore thus you have less compression this gives poor running but when it is at operation temp they have expanded and form a better seal against the bore. dose it stop blowing smoke when it's at operating temp.

    thanx guys
ill try thr biodiesel but does anyone know where to get it from in melb i dont think ive ever seen it as far as turbo goes had it redone about 5othousand ks ago had a new mitsubishy one put in injectors ive never changed so i ordered a new set thew les richmond tonight and yes as soon as it gets to running temp it stops blowing smoke but if i stop for a few hours and she cools down bang smokes again its got me buggered but i drained the oil tonight which i only changed on sunday and it was dirty as hell and smelled of diesel so good chance its the injectors bleeding in as it sits over night also today it started but ran like a petrol engine thats flooded .
ill try the biodiesel though and replace the injectors and then see maybe i might have to pull her down and rebuild her ..
    thanx again

if the injectors are leaking the cause most likely is the needle not seating or worn out and I don't reaken running bio will fix that problem, maybe look at getting a compression test befor you pull the engine down.
