    Defender spring help

    Hi I was just after some advice on spring selection for my 2000 defender. At the moment I have a set of heavy duty King spring and bilstein shocks, and I find the ride way to harsh for a coil sprung 4x4 I don't tow anything and only fill the car with camping gear for two once a month and that's it. The front has a steel bar and electric winch, I was looking at the les richmond range of springs and was wondering if anyone could give me any feedback on some that they have purchased, spring colours etc. Any feedback would be appreciated

    Best set up I know of for the type of usuage you suggest (which is similar to my usage) is as follows:

    Front - Heavy Duty LR Springs - these are the same as the std 130 front spring and will handle the extra load you have on front.
    Rear - Standard LR Defender springs with PolyAirs.

    I and a few colleagues have used this set up on a number of 110's and are very happy with it.

    Oh ..................... and fit either Koni or Bilstein dampers at the same time. The combination of springs and dampers is what you need for the correct end result.

    Sorry, I just saw that you already have Bilsteins - so provided they're still in good condition and suited for standard length springs then you'll only need the springs - much better on the budget!

    I've Just fitted NRC9448, NRC9449 (L&R respectively)front springs and 20mm lift blocks under the rears to a MY2000 110 Td5 with an ARB winch bar.
    Unless you are carrying / towing heavy weights, rears will be fine with just a small lift (I used 20mm to retain the front/ rear height ratio on this vehicle due to it not having a winch yet. )as the standard rear spring rates are very good.

    The NRC9448/9 springs are the ones XTREME was talking about, they are 130 heavyduty fronts.

    If you have a winch, you won't need the 20mm at the rear, and as Roger suggests, polyairs will be fine for heavy loads and towing.

    I have a 2000 110 Extreme which had the usual sag in the front from having a bullbar fitted.
    I then fitted a winch and it droped down even more so i ordered a set of HD king springs for the front. I never fitted them cos when i went to pick them up from Repco and opened them up i knew they would be way to stiff.

    I then rang British Offroad up here on the Sunshine Coast and they told me they fit Dobinson springs to there customers cars which corrects the drop in the front end. Dobinsons Spring & Suspension
    Part No. is C51-018

    I fitted these which brought the front up to the same height as the back and the ride improved alot because the std progressive wound springs where all bound up at the top from the weight.

    I left the std rear springs as they handle the loads that i carry and tow. The only thing is you definately need better shocks than the std LR ones which the bilsteins you have will be fine.

    Hope this helps u out, don't know if u want to lift it or keep it std height
