Towing Bracket...

Just got my new LWB... I was thinking of taking the pucker Land Rover fitted towing bracket off my 2003 90" that I still have (must get around to selling my shorty ), and fixing it to the new LWB, it looks like it should fit, nut holes are all in the right place, my question is about the electric's; I had a peer at the existing connections on the 90", and they look pretty bodged to me, there is a nice connector/plug tucked up behind the tail-lights, but rather than use this, LR has cut the wires and just twisted them together then covered the whole lot in electrical tape. Firstly, is this normal!? And secondly, anyone know if this is a standard connector that LR have used and I should be able to get a new trailer plug that has that type of electrical connector at one end? And I guess lastly, anyone know if the wires are the same from the 2003 shorty to the new 2009 LWB (just in case I have to 'bodge' it too!)?

The plug at the rear is the same on all defenders with the Td5 from 01my onwards.
The problem is that there is no plug for the Australian Market because the towbars are made locally (In Australia) so there is a plug to match.
BUT..
In the UK there is such a plug & u can buy them as a stand alone part.

This is the reason why the cut to the plug has been done.
We normally use connectors, none of this taping up business.

The only other way to get the plug is from a wrecked D2, as it IS the same plug! Surprise

Customers normally dont want to pay for 2 tow kits!

p.s if u can read the part number on the Def90 towbar & it reads RAA608, then yes it will fit.

I think I'll just cut the wires and join them up as per the old one (except I might invest in some pucker () connectors).

Hi Guys, 2004 D90 here
So, I remove the p***a Pommie round socket and fit it with an AUS/NZ standard 7 pin/7 wire flat thing and wire it all properly. Sides,stop,indicators fine.
No reverse light active, no 'aux' active and no 'electric brake' active on the pins.
How do I hook up/connect/activate these extra pins?
The Rave CD (AULRO version) has nothing exact to say on the subject and the diagrams in the library have wires ending nowhere.

I wasn't aware that these are the same part. I have seen this plug roughly taped up onto the chassis behind the drivers side rear mud flap of the Defender.

A bit more to the above excellent info:

This is a pic of a D2 connector. The blue wire for trailer brakes is left out from original and strapped aside. This one was out of a 1999 D2 and has a part number RAA 500 and has "TESTED BY LUMEN AUSTRALIA" printed on the tag.
