Towing with a Freelander
I have towed a motorbike trailer behind my 2000 model 1.8L Freelander (probabably 500Kg all up)...hardly noticed it was there...
I think my tow bar is a genuine Land Rover install (Hayman Reece)...Not sure what the rating is as the compliance plate has faded. Tried to get some info from Hayman Reece without any luck..
Have read in the user manual that the Freelander itself is rated at 2000Kg.
Have been thinking lately of possibly buying a smallish pop-top caravan (Max 1250Kg) and was wondering how the little 1.8 would handle it...??
I am a very "gentle" driver. Happy to just cruise along. Not out to get anywhere in a hurry. My intention would be to keep the van weight to a minumum by carrying most of the heavier items in the back of the Freelander.
Anyone had any experience towing a caravan/pop-top/camper behind a 1.8...??. What sort of weights were involved and how did it perform..??

Uhh, a 1.8l towing a van etc will require patience. Mine will easily move a 1.6t boat and trailer around suburban areas, but on the highway, dont expect to pass 100km/hr too often.
Cheers!
