I have a 04 TD5 130, bought it December last year and have been up to Karratha and back plus a trip or two down to Katanning. I have previously owned two Deefer 110's (300Tdi and Td5) wagons, but I have felt that the 130 was a bit of a slug, especially after fitting 255/85R16 BFG Mud Terrains (effectively taller gearing, but made the speedo spot on).
Two weeks ago I had Tombie2 reprogramme the ECU to Stage 1 standard, plus in the same time I have added a snorkel, a new air filter and removed the hyclone centrifugal crud remover from the airbox as well as the bellow connector on the exhaust header pipe. I also have a EGR bypass kit on its way from pommyland.
So far the response is quite dramatic. Although still sluggish from a standing start, the turbo input is more marked and longer lasting....so "Bev" accelerates on the roll far better. Even choofing along at 100-110kmh she still has plenty left for a road train or hill climb. Last weekend I did a 1900km round trip to the NE Goldfields and I loved it, especially the Perth hills where she was singing along up the gradients at 110kmh.
From my chats with Tombie2 and JC, 02 TD5 onwards the ECU can be reprogrammed on the bench. It's the silver box in the drivers seatbox with red and black connectors....outside of driving it, unless the previous owners marked the unit the only way to tell if had already been modded would be a tech specialist bench checking the programming.
Cheers,
