Rough Idling on new 110

Hi again,
My new 110 Puma wagon is really a "Machine". I love her.
It has great pickup etc.
I can't wait to take it off road to see how she fares, according to the users manual I need to wait until I reach about 800 Km before i can rev it over 3000 RPM, or travel over 100 Km/h. (I have already "accidentally" done this). just that on soft sand i need to keep the revs up...

BUT... since I took delivery, it idles roughly especially with the air conditioner on. It feels as though it "misses", it will suddenly shudder and the whole car shakes. It seems that it is starve from fuel for an instant. This happens every 10 seconds or so. I have spoken to Land Rover about it but they want to dismiss it and say to take it for a long drive and the problem will go away...
I have just sent them an Email so that there is a written record of the problem.
What are your thoughts on this issue?
Has anyone else had this problem?
I wonder if it has anythig to do with the fuel pressure relief valve as mentioned in the Technical Service Bulletin No.LTB00153 as found in this forum in the Sticky Threads.
Any comments would be appreciated...

G’day Machine,
Just done over 3,000 clicks in mine and no problem at all with idling or the running of the engine. I would keep on to Landrover about it, it doesn’t sound right. There was a trend mid last year about water ingestion in the fuel system causing some engine problems. Worth having a read of. I do have an engine oil leak from the oil filter housing already! Hmmmm. But that’s it engine wise.

i can't contribute much other than to say i'm at 1,200 km's on my 110 and don't have the problem.

the px relif valve will make no difference to running when open or closed, i know already on my second valve due to the water problem.

sounds like your air con pump kicking in, mine chnages note and you can tell when it comes in and out but there is no rough running, try with out it on see if goe away.

landrover should come to the party but they tend not to belive anything until you provide the proof. its hard work, thank god we love our machines or i dare say the jap crowd would be gaining more buisness.

33,000kms on ours and still love it. We've had the usual problems that LR have looked after very well. The only difficult one we had was the rear trailing arm came a bit loose which caused the rear axile to change directions! only slightly but enought to notice. It did take a couple of trip to LR for this one and a VERY stern word to the work shop forman about their "bolt checks" but all good now

So my advice to you is keep hounding them. Hopefully you are not too far from a service centre that you can make yourself a pest that they will want to solve your proble to get rid of you

If it happens when cold, then it could be the dreaded poor oil lubrication when cold issue - documented on the Defender2 forum. The solution is a replacement engine!

If it is all the time, then just hope that it logs a fault code and the dealer can pick it up. On mine you can tell when the A/C cuts in, but there is definitely no misfire or that sort of thing.

Keep on it with the dealer (are you using Austral or Southside?). Southside have generally been pretty good at actioning my fault reports. We have only reached an impasse on one, and that is a leak which refuses to show itself whenever it's in the workshop.

I'd agree with what Solmanic says but this does sound like the worst possible outcome though which makes me think its something far simpler. The other thing it could be is an ECU fault. Has the dealer mentioned any fault codes in the engine diagnostics?

I've almost broken 10,000km in mine (4,500km in 8 days and the rest has only taken 7 months ). I don't notice the A/C doing anything, but then I've hardly ever turned mine off except when the windows are down.

I think I'm getting rough idling on mine - it's at 4kk now, and is 6 weeks old. I also find that occasionally it feels like it's hesitating on acceleration, especialyl when foot is flat to the floor. I have no doubt the dealer will say there is nothing wrong with it...... I'ts goin back tomorrow to have panels alignment issues fixed.

34000 on ours - no 'major' issues yet - excluding rear door hinges giving up , radio failing , clutch fly wheel coming apart
... All looked after by the dealer. No rough idling though so keep at them...

Done over 16000 km since November 2008 and so far no issues like that.
What are your front springs like ? How many of the top coils are sitting down on top of each other ?
Hope you have better dealer than where Iam !
