    Regarding Tech Bulletins

    Hi everyone,

Regarding the bullitin about the tailshafts on the new Defenders missing grease nipples ! Have any of you had the dealer replace them yet ? Both my tailshafts have no nipples on the spline and the dealer said they were a " SEALED UNIT " .
Dont know but I have never seen a sealed spline !
    Any comments ?

    Pete.

some newer propshafts have a teflon sleve built into the splines....

one more part that costs bugger all to make, and lets them charge a fortune to replace.

My rear was replaced just before the notice came out. Picked up during a service and the dealer wanted it done.

My Oct 08 Puma has no nipples on the splines, but the dealer would never notice. At the last service I checked under the vehicle as there was a problem with the exhaust bracket hitting the tail shaft and noticed the uni joint nipples were still cover in dirt. I asked the work shop manager if greasing the uj was part of a service, he reckons it was, have a look at your bill we charged you for it. Does not give me much confidence in their abilities.
Any way whats the go with the props are they a sealed spline or are they missing grease points that are needed?

This is interesting - can you describe where/how this was occurring exactly please? I think it might explain an issue I am having.

The alignment of the exhaust and its supports is not good, causing the rubber mount to move across on its support, allowing the exhaust bracket to contact the tail shaft. Service said they would do some bending and realigning but its not right yet.
