Moonrise

I thought I'd bring the old 200mm newtonian telescope out from its dank closet for a run tonight. It hasn't seen the sky in nearly 2 years. The only thing cloudless was the moon for a little while earlier this evening.

Anyway - all good fun!

Beautiful detail. Youve inspired me. I've got to pull my finger out and get a t-mount for my D40. The big blue cannon sitting in the corner needs to go out and gather some photons.

So omaroo are these special telesopes you can buy? or are they just like any other telescope and you can just put a fitting on them so you can mount them to your camera?

Louise - this is my usual imaging rig:

1) With Canon 350D DSLR at prime focus. Scope focal length is 820mm.



2) Same scope with cooled (-20C) monochrome CCD astro camera - capable of ISO20000 or thereabouts. Use RGB colour filters and assemble contone colour image from these. CCD chip is cooled to 30-odd below ambient air temp to eradicate thermal noise associated with long exposures. Additional water cooling will bring the chip temp down to -45C.
