255/85 tyres - BFG MT, Cooper ST, or Bighorns

OK I have two tyres that need replacing on the 110 and the others have probably 12 mths left. So the opportunity is there for a new set. I am currently running 235/85 ATs.

From a search of aulro it seems people who have put 255/85s on 110 Defenders prefer them over other sizes.

Also, the extra gearing from a taller tyre seems to be an advantage for the 4 speed LT95.

I am not that keen on a mud tyre as most of my driving is on road. I am not after lots of km from a tyre as I only do 10 to 15000km per year.

So which is the choice of tyre in 255/85: BFG M/T KM2, Cooper ST, or Maxxis Bighorn?

I have had a bad run on ST's, so not using them again. Bighorns may not do the km that BFG M/T do, I have almost 60k and they are wearing VERY well. I do HEAPS of bitumen driving, and they are lasting well.
I have just ordered some more.

And yes, I am happy with the 255/85/16 diameter with my LT95 BUT have to use low range in reverse up steep hills or when backing trailers as it is as you know a very high gear.

You cant get the KM2 in 255 85 yet. Probably about a month away it would seem.

I would definetley go for the KM2, and probably even take the current BFG over the others.

They are getting very expensive though. $370 each for BFG's now.

BFG Mud-Terraine' tyres must be one of the most overpriced Tyre currently on the market , just my Opinion , personally I'd be going to Good year Wrangler MTR soon.

If Goodyear made a 255 85 16 i'd happily give them a try. The issue is that IMHO the BFG is the best tyre out of those 3 that are the only available on the market in that size, worse luck.

That's right JC , I just looked at their catallogue and 255/85/16 tyre size is not available in MTR range.

Unfortunatley its not just the BFG's that are overpriced. Pretty sure the Bighorns are wll clear of 300 now, 330 rings a bell, and at that money the BFG is better value, due to the life of them.

Psimpson @ $285 each for Maxxis Bighornes in 255 x 85 x 16's ,IMO they are definitely better value than the $370 quoted for BFG Muddies in that size.
