Congratulations mate, well done. Let the fun begin.![]()
Hello all,
Over the weekend i picked up a nice little series II shorty (not sure whether its just a II or a IIa?) from a mate of my dads who i have been pushing to sell to me for a while now. All it needs is a new distributer cap and a battery and just a bit of general maintenance (flushing of oils and water) and a bit with the steering... but other than that its bloody good! It has some rust in the upper door panels and only minor surface rust in places. Although i havnt had a close look at the chassis just yet... I hope to get it running by the end of the week and just tidy it up from there slowly and maybe in the future get it to a stage where it can register it. For the moment i just want to get it running though and trailer it to our local 4wding area (murphys creek near Toowoomba) for a bit of a play to see how it goes.
I have a few quick questions with it also.. Will the rims from a Discovery 1 fit it? and if so how big can i go with tyres. I have a spare discovery for my current discovery that is my daily driver and i plan on flogging the wheels off the spare and putting them on the series... if they fit that is. The tyres on the rims are 235/70/r16 and i have the oppurtunity to buy some cheap 235/85/r16 but im not sure if they would be too tall for it... also, where can i get some second hand door upper things to replace for the rust, because they are too far gone to try and repair ive decided...
Anyway here are some pics and any advice would be awesome!
(sorry about the picture quality, they were taken on my phone, i will try and get some better ones on my camera tomorrow)
Thanks,
Shamo

Good times![]()
More Series owners always welcomed! Easy to tell if it is a 2 or 2a - if it has a chassis number (plate in cab in front of gearlever and LHS rear back spring hanger) which is numbers only, it is Series 2, if there is a letter suffix (A - G) it is a 2a.
The Discovery 1 wheels, if steel, will fit the 2/2a, but before going for the biggest tyres you can fit, consider the fact that it does not have power steering and the none too good turning circle will be further limited by fitting wider than standard tyres. Also check the rules on tyre width and track modifications allowed in your state.

The rims should fit
My Series IIA is sitting on a set of 32x11.5 Mickey Thompson MTXs at the moment. You should be able to run the 235s easy, maybe even 33s or 7.50R16s
Most of the Landrover Parts suppliers will have door tops. They cost a bit though from memory. It might be easier to pick up a set off eBay or off Dullbird if she is still wrecking that IIA. Check out the markets section
