    A weekend drive

    I thought some might be interested in today's effort - I went for a drive in the 2a today (the 110 has a broken speedo cable). I was meeting up with my son in Wellington to return my grandchildren - they go back to school on Monday.

    The drive was about 145km round trip, with a break of a couple of hours as we all did a tour of the Cathedral cave at Wellington. The actual driving was about an hour each way, but this includes four gates each way and two railway crossings with stop signs, and driving through Wellington.

    The 2a gave no trouble at all, and cruised comfortably at 100kph where conditions allowed (which was most of the trip). Ride is markedly rougher than the 110 on corrugations, especially when I was returning empty. The road is about 50% bitumen and 50% gravel, mostly undulating, and includes driving through the town. Noise levels are a bit high compared to the 110, despite being petrol compared to the 110 diesel, but I attribute most of this to the Steeltreks.

    The experience confirms that a 2a would make a quite satisfactory daily driver for on-road work (I mostly only use it round the property).

    Hey John I agree.

    Not a LWB 2a for me, but when I was running around in a SWB series 3 I did a handful of 500+ kays hopping between sealed and unsealed roads, Mostly through the Central West as well and thoroughly enjoyed it.

    Did spend a bit more time on the road in the end, but selected a direct route down backroads and through properties etc and it beat the pants of sitting on monotonous blacktop.

    If I had to punch out 100+ kays a day in a series landy I would love it. The speed factor may get oppressive at times, but other factors more than make up for it.

    G'Day John.

    I spent 6 hours behind the wheel of Ambrose yesterday afternoon, in SHOCKING traffic over Mt Victoria.

    I have to agree that once the old bus gets going it is quite alright, but sitting in stop start traffic all the way up the range makes for VERY sore legs!

    ...made worse, by people who stop 3cm off my tail.

    haha i can sympathise about the sore legs mostly because my handbreak and clutch are excessively worn which makes for interesting hillstarts. I believe I have already mentioned my theory of rolling backwards as someone approaches me from behind to 'scare' them from stopping too close Being an open top I have been known to turn around and death-stare people who stop too close to me on a hillstart

    For the past two weeks I have been using my IIA as a daily - just to try it out. Must say I am pretty pleased also. I desperatly need a new clutch though as I am getting very bad clutch shudder and slip, also it is a bit annoying having to constantly pump up the breaks and not having a choke (disconnected) on these cold brisbane mornings...

    With the great weather we've been having up here I have even folded the windscreen down on a couple of occations It is cheaper to run than my kingswood as I run it on E10 which is alot cheaper than BP Ultimate

    I regularly take my 2A SWB for 3-4hr drives of a Sunday arvo, and it seems to feel sweeter as the day goes on, something to do with aclimatisation, especially when you come out of the bush and back onto the black top....veeery smoooth.
    Having recently fitted a set of parabolics helps a bit to.
    No traffic though, all country back roads and state forests etc.
    Also currently running with no lid on, just the way I like it.

    I use my SII as a daily driver when I need to. I ride my push bike 32kms a day going to and from work so maybe that is my daily driver ,lol. But I love taking the series to the Swan Valley in WA (wine region) with the top off, calling into wineries and chocolate factories, it's amazing how much quieter it is with the top off though.

    I also take the dog to the beach and he just loves hanging his head out the sides.
