Hum in front end and slight knocking when going slow over rough ground

Howdy folks - just did a trip to Wyndham and back from Darwin and noticed when I got to Wyndham that there is quite an audible hum at the front end now. I'm pretty sure its not the tyres - but just to be sure I've done a full rotation, alignment etc and its still there in the front.

As its such a quite vehicle normally its pretty noticable... it does change pitch with the speed I'm doing... and I feel a slight vibration in the steering wheel...

I've got it booked in for a service in a couple of weeks so will get them to look at that too... any ideas what it might be?

Also.. had this for some time (perhaps since I bought it a couple of months ago) - when going slow over rocky roads I hear a slight lose noise or knock in the front wheels... I think I've read somewhere that in some of the older D3s that the bushes wore out quicker? Wondering if its that... its a MY07 built in late 2006... its not sounding really bad or really lose but I do think it should be quiter... I'll get them to look at that too but any advice welcome

    Cheers
    Paul

Front diff noise is not unheard of.

Lower arm bushes & ball joints are likely to be your suspension noise. Maybe steering tie rods/ends & upper/lower column shafts too.

Thanks scouse - do you know if this is normally fixed under warranty or do they just say its wear and tear or something?

    Well, lets see.
    Excessive movement is warranty.
    Worn is wear & tear.

It'll be covered under warranty .

Have you done many steering racks.....
I got the lower front control arms from Jocelyn and that got rid of most of the rattle and you guys replaced the upper and lower steering columns about
6000 ks ago. the sway bar bushes seem ok.....any ideas

Known issues that should be under warranty:

    Ball joints
    steering rack
    lower control arm bushes
    ARB bushes.

Not too many racks but enough. Maybe 3 or so a month.
Tie rods (inner & outer) seem to knock a bit recently more so than the rack itself.
