Listening to the radio today, and it was announced that people with vehicles that have
a) been unregistered for over 2 months, and
b) have not surrendered their number plates
will be getting expiation notices posted out to the value of about $500.00 (was previously about $60.00)
Not sure if this applies to SA only, but something you definitely don't want to get caught out with. Especially with projects in the back yard![]()

I can't see that being the case.
I have a car that I only register over summer (Karmann Ghia) because it leaks and it's too dangerous in the wet. Every year I re-register it for just 6 months.
Have you got any official links to put up to back this up at all?
Cheers
David

There have always been fines in NSW for not handing back plates and I thought it was a matter of days not months where you have to hand them in to avoid the fine.
Each time you re-register the car after lapse you are issued a new set of plates and it's corresponding alpha-numeric combination.
Even when we had fleet trucks that were only used in peak periods, we had to have an annual inspection and hand the plates in each time a three month registration period expired and was not continued, although we paid a holding fee to keep the Rego number as they were within a sequence through the entire fleet.
You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.
Announcement came from SAPOL representative, but I haven't chased up any links.
I did get a "warning / threat" in the mail about a trailer in my name that was unregistered for a while, so I went and did both trailer and landy.
Seasonal rego is fine.
OK. Glad to hear they will still allow seasonal rego.
Might have to give them a call on Monday to clarify the others, especially the Series I as I don't really want to give up the 'old' plate that is on it for a new one.
