It's possibly caused by the LHF seat occupancy sensor. It's been reported quite a bit but there's not a definite reason that I know of.
The new D3 is going great with no problems but:
Every now & then while driving I hear a single chime. There seems to be no reason for it nor does there seem to be any regularity to it. Nothing comes up in the message centre & no lights flash or come on.
It can happen just as you drive off or just while driving along an open road after some time.
I had some small wok done last week (new spare wheel winch) & they said no error messages were recorded.
Does anyone have an explanation for this?
Other than that I'm still mucking about with tyre pressures & stuff but it all goes very well & as per advertisements.
Love it!

jonesfam,
As Scouse said it sounds like the front passenger seatbelt warning, It had me wondering for a while until I realised that if you have anything more than a paper clip sitting on the front passenger seat it does seem to chime every now an then.
However there is an alternative, the following is from a thread on the Disc3.Co.UK site
"very good safety device, but the beeping is so annoying (eg when moving a trailer around & need to take safety belt off).
But it can be disabled! the same system as applies to Fords works - simply turn ignition on then rapidly (within 1 min) put the safety belt in & out of the clip 9 times! On the 9th time the safety belt light will stay on for a while & then after that you still get the safety belt light but not the "beep" One caution... I don't yet know how to re-enable the "beep"
Thread is DISCO3.CO.UK - View topic - Safety Belt alarm (disabled) if you want to check the whole thing out,
The warning light on the dash still comes on however it does not make the very annoying noise, worked perfectly for me.
Whilst I am not advocating disabling safety devices in general I think you should be able to remember and or to check if you and or your passenger have a seat belt on without the car beeping at you.
Ummmm! The wife reminded me today that this single chime out of the blue has sounded while she has been sitting in the front passenger seat with the seat belt done up, also while she has been driving & I'm in the passenger's seat. So can't be that then?
Any other ideas?

My Jan 09 build has the odd boing as well. Occurs couple of times per week. With and without passenger.
99 times out of 100 it appears to occur when just touching the brake pedal. No error or warning messages. Dealer has not been able to replicate (neither can I deliberately) and nothing logged.
This is the only issue I have had, and frankly I can live with it as everything else is great.![]()
Yep, that's it & mine is a Sept 09 build.
I can live with it as well but I thought it might be something important.
Could be just the car telling us it has a chime & we had better not forget it.
Still a great car though.

mine is also an 09, and I get the random boing too. Others told me about the seat belt thing, and that may explain some of them but not all, have also experienced it while braking, but some of them seem to be entirely random.
Hmm - my '09 does this too. Random boing, usually when braking for the first time.
Interesting ...........
