    I am disappointed

I have my 300 tdi serviced at reputable service centre in north west Sydney. However twice now he has let me down. Around 3 years ago, having had a big service done in preparation for our trip to W.A. I discovered by accident that the rear brake pads were almost onto the backing plate. Needless to say I replaced these immediately. Two weeks ago I had the vehicle serviced again and I mentioned that I had a juddering feeling when braking lightly. Nothing was found during the service and roadtest. However I found the problem myself today. The front off side wheel bearings were loose, so much to say that when I removed the drive flange and the lock nut and tab washer, the inner nut spun around in my fingers. All good now.

I had a well respected LR shop at newtown do my brakes and next morning had the peddle go to the floor and I set the handbrake on fire stopping it.The very knowledgeable owner gave me the royal treatment that afternoon. Pat

It's hard to get good help !!

Even when you are paying top dollar !!

I once had a XR6 Turbo (before seeing the light) it had to have the diff centre replaced due to whining noise. No prob. Until I drove it home from the dealership. At the first round about I nearly lost control, the back end was all over the place.

Took it straight back and found out the mechanic forgot to put the axel bolts on, the back wheels and axels were just being held on by the brake calipers pressing against the disks.

Hard to get good help !!

Events like those above listed that occurred over 40 years ago started me on the track of doing everything mechanical that I possibly can for our vehicles

...... there was no "consumer protection " then...

it is crazy firstly you pay top dollar to some goon who has done a three year college course and should know what is involved on a job, then you hear of a guy doing his own work in the u.k. killing his kids as a result...you just cannot win really ....i try to do as much myself because i doubt the ability of a heap of mechanics to do the right thing when they are charging like wounded bovines.

On my SS the Holden Dealership cracked the sump (first they told me a rock hit it..bit hard with a huge plate under the engine) then I found out it was from overtightening the sump plug.. they tried to charge me 1700 bucks for a new sump as they said it must have been done in the past.. the manager was quick to wave the charge after I showed him that all service was done at his dealership.

    Tossers

And a few months ago I put a new clutch in the SS.. drove it home and the car had the worst knocking sound.. they forgot to bolt the gearbox back in..nice!
