price of the good old defender

well, just a thought from you all about the price of the defender now that land rover will stop making the current "shape" defender, and the what i think is the original fender, not just td5(thebest) but all fenders

and with them been sort after as is, do you think that the defender will become a "classic" car and a priceless collectors item when they finally cease production

I think the Defender is a unique vehicle, pretty much free of the techno-crap that haunts others, while through design can match all challengers off road.

It will be the end of an era for this type of vehicle, as I very much doubt the new Defender (if their is one) will be of the same ilk.

With that said, a good example that has been looked after will always be worth good money, regards less of age or model.

Long live the Defender.

its dew to new laws for car safety thats coming out, and the fender shape,, well more so the chassis will not pass in anyway, it skimps in as it is. as it must have airbags, and all that stuff,

And rover say its just not cost effective to try and change the current car to make the new rules, and then they say for land rover to make a new car they have to sell at least 50,000 units a yr of a model, and the defender doesn't even make half that per yr, so its pretty much a no win for landrover and the defender as we no,

and i can't see landrover using the d3/4 chassis for the base of a new one,

i don't reckon prices will change when the end comes tot he current shape....i.e. i don't think there was a move when the 300tdi or td5 was fazed out 'end of an era', no different for shape

This is what is suggested will happen. As you said with the new model they need 50 000 units a year. They may sell half of that now but it's not sold in the US so there's a strong case for the Defender provided they can stick some airbags in it and DSC.

yer thats true, is that cos 1 there only the puma engine and no 20,000,000L superchaged v10? or 2 a 110 to them is to small for them and they just simply can't fit in them,,

i still can't wate to see what the defender replacement will be, how can you folow on from such a icon

Well I don't think LR will cock it up. I think they understand what they have and will do a good job on the next one. If they do that - then I think residuals on existing defenders will soften in time.

It may affect near new defenders (pumas) the most initially, and then as the second hand versions of the new ones come in it will affect all of them.

Having said that, at the moment the defenders routinely achieve prices (residuals) that would be the envy of all other brands. So, a little worse resale will still have them the equal or better of most competitors.

But this is different - moving from the "series" shape to ???? - still, prices will just reflect demand.

I'm going to retire my old girl and buy one of the last puma's before the new one comes out.I want a defender,not a defender running on a disco floor pan which I recon the new one will be. Pat
