    Series 2 coily?

Cruising through ebay, I found this. I was interested when I saw it had been converted to a coily, but it still has drum brakes all around.

    ebay link

It seems very strange to go to all the effort of converting it to coils but keeping the drum brakes. The guy thinks it has disco diffs, which obviously aren't drums so I'm not sure what the go is. I'll call the guy tomorrow and would like to check it out a little more but does anyone have any more info on it?

This with a tdi would make the exact car I'm looking for and would be a ball to drive.

Silly question time: How do you know they're drum brakes? There are two brake lines to the front hubs. I thought discs had two brake lines to each front hub. My Series 3 Stage 1 has and it has discs.

    regards

I emailed the seller and he told me it had drum brakes all around. Rebuilt power assisted drums. The dual brake lines and wide track visible in the first pic make me think it is a RRC diff but I'm not much of a train spotter with the drive flanges and suspension pick-up points. It's always concerning when a seller doesn't know what he's selling. More pictures might sort it out until I can get up there for a look.

I just has a chat to the guy and he confirmed that it does have disc brakes all around, so that's good. I'm going to have a look at it later this week, so that'll be intresting to have a good look at it. It was converted to coils back in 93 according to the mod plate. I think it would make the basis of a nice toy for much cheaper than the 25 grand needed for a defender 90

The biggest issue is he hasn't got the paperwork for the mod plate. I don't know how much of a problem this may be. I can't see it being a problem come rego time, but more if a cluey cop takes a closer look.

If I was closer and SWMBO would let me I would be bidding. Mind you I have enough bits between here and Alice to make my own...

Thats not really an issue. The MOD plate is the paperwork really. There will most likely be an approved persons details on the plate and you could follow it up with them.
