300tdi valve springs worn

Can anyone give a reason why i have 2 valve springs worn but the rest look ok.
The 2 in mention are worn down past the (round knobby bit), I cant imagine anyone replacing the others long ago and leaving those 2.

Also while i am at it, i am about to take off the head, what do i look out for with regards to the top of the block, piston tops etc. What would a good one look like, what does a bad one look like.

Do you think it would be necesary to have my head pressure/leak tested or just test it for warps myself.

BigMark hi i would be a bit hesitant to reccommend taking the head off if you don't know what your looking at maybe you need to find somoene in Perth who might be able to help you and give you some on the job training.

Is the reason that your taking the head off the worn valves or are there some other symptons too mate

Yeah, i overheated her a week ago- so after removing most of the front of the engine decided to lift the head incase of gasket leak . She still drove home ok at 3/4 on the temp guage but i suspect not much water in there.

May as well do timing belt and other stuff while i can get at it. I have had an offer from an Aulroian to come over to help put the head back on after i get a new gasket/head bolts. So its all ready to come off -only the head bolts to go- i have just been too busy to get around to it, but noticed the top of the springs today and wondered whaty would cause only 2 of them to be worn.

Also wanted to know what good bad signs to look for on the top of the block when i get it off.
Now im wondering whether to pull the whole motor out or can i do rings and bearings from underneath with the motor in.

Sorted, only one of the end caps was worn (not sure why just one) the other was actually fell off when i removed the rocker so i thought it was well worn- i am getting to the stage of needing glasses.
