Discovery 3 HSE Petrol Unleaded Engine Amber Warning Lights and Locking Problem

Hi Guys,

I'm new to this forum.

I just bought a second hand Land Rover Discovery 3 HSE with 100 odd thousand kilometers on the clock.

Ive had remote locking and unlocking problems. I did not change the battery on it. But I tried opening it manually using the key and that too would not work.

Secondly it is throwing up an amber light on the dash with an engine symbol. I referred to the manual and it said that further driving the vehicle with the warning lights would cause damage to the catalytic converter. The mechanic however drove the vehicle to his shop.

Are these 2 problems common on this car? yes or no? If yes what could be the solutions. Please help guys.

the engine shaped warning light is the check engine light.

think of it as the big master alarm in an aircraft cockpit. Anything can set it off including a lot of minor things. The mechanic more than likely checked out the likely cause and deemed it safe to drive and did so.

The keys are charged by the vehicle. The battery is not user replaceable as far as I'm aware.

Generally speaking it's best to alternate key use on a monthly basis to ensure both units remain fully charged.

The puzzling problem is even, the manual key will not unlock or lock the doors mate.
Im just anxious and worried.

Hi,
You don't say what model year your D3 is, but from the distance travelled it may be any early one (2005/06).

If the starting battery is the original one, it may well be on its last legs. If you still had the car at home, I would suggest that you recharge the battery and see if the faults continue.

You also don't say if the car is now at a LR dealer, or an independent. If an independent, they may not know what they are doing.

Re the manual opening: This is not common, as it is a mechanical linkage, but can become stiff with time. I would attempt to lubricate it and try again.

Sorry that I can't be of more help, but as you now have the vehicle at a mechanics it's out of both your and my hands.
