Hi people - today for Christmas I thought I would give my S2B a new set of bushes. Easy you say - well as anyone who has done it will inform you no it is never easy.
My problem is that I know I checked my books to find all the part numbers and believe that I got the correct types, (but may have a set for a S2a F/C) and I don't have the parts books on the farm where I am now.
Has anyone changed the rear spring bushes on an S2B?
Are they the same as the regular bushes (30mm) or were they a larger size (38mm)? I am thinking I have a set of non standard rear springs.
What are the size of the spring bushes on the 101" - could they be 38mm?
Dial up at the moment so if anyone with the answer feels like ringing - the number is 0417 669 081.

You can all stop worrying.
Ransacked my box of bushes to find that I had two Series III front chassis bushes, which turn out to be the same OD as the spring bushes I'm looking for.
A bit of hacksaw work and I now have a pair of SIIB rear spring bushes. The only thing to do is find another pair of SIII chassis bushes.

Some bad news on the preparations for my S2B's presence at the Australia Day Motorfest.
Managed to sort out, well at least by-pass the shonky wiring the PO had on the S2B's engine.
Cleaned out needle and seat on the SU carby.
A bit of SYB into the air intake.
Hit the starter and the engine revs and stops, several more tries, same result.
Give it a bit of hand throttle and away she goes!
Well I think she went away, couldn't really tell there was that much fog in the workshop that I could hardly see anything.

Rings me thinks!
Anyone feel like assembling a Rover 3 litre short engine?

G,day Diana,take it out on the road first if it hasnt been started for a few years it will probably clean itself up,but if not i,m happy to do a 3 ltr for you,but not before motorfest!.what mark 3ltr engine is it,does it have the weslake head?.

I spoke to Hilton last evening after my post, he said pretty much the same as you. I ran the engine a bit longer until I ran out of fuel in the can (have bypassed the original fuel tank and glass bowl as the bown is full of what looks like wax) the smoke leaving the shed was grey rather than white, although when I put a chux towel over the exhaust I expected it to be black but there was hardly a mark.
The Rover 3 litre engine I have is a MkI so no Westlake head. It is a reco'ed unit from a Repco agent in Adelaide. The block is assembled, sans oil pump, sump, head etc although the head has been overhauled. Hilton suggests I follow the instructions in the Rover W/Shop manual and assemble it myself. It just scares me a bit, because I have never done anything other than replace a head gasket or waterpump. Also I don't have a bench or engine stand of sufficient size in Sydney for the Rover 6 block.
Hilton suggests that I finish the 1951 first and if there is time before Cooma then do the F/C.
He could be right.
