So Harry how is that S3 GS of yours going? Wonder if Mr Goddard would be interested in that

Think he'd make a great Patron for SLOw (though not GC, Grimace would be a much better Patron for us)

    Following up on this thread,

the following announcement has been made to the members of SLOw in Club Chatter

It is my great pleasure to inform you that SLOw now has a Patron. Not just any old Patron, but the one and only Arthur Goddard.

Incisor and myself met with Arthur this afternoon, after I previously made contact with Arthur's son Chris, and Arthur is delighted to be the Patron of our club. I feel he likes the idea of a club for his old working vehicles, rather than all the "fancy" ones they have today, as he calls them.

Arthur Goddard is an engineer that helped give birth to the vehicle we love so much, as well as mould it's early years through various changes to the base of the vehicle that is pretty much still made today. It is a real privilege that we have one of our hobby's founding fathers around over 60 years after it was created. There has recently been a book written, as well as a DVD, on Arthur and his memories of his time at Land Rover.

Arthur has plenty of memories of those times, of which we were fortuanate enough to hear just a snippet this afternoon, regarding Tickfords and the Queen.

Arthurs Son Chris will also be joining us, and as soon as we relocate his AULRO username, I can let you all know who he is.

The Goddards are an extremely hospitable family, accomodating us at no notice, and are very keen to be involved. I welcome them and look forward to having them in our club.

Just look at that Series 1 in our lower photo and the dapper chap leaning against it in the suit. Now tell me the Series 1 is not the finest vehicle Land Rover ever made!

Fantastic result regarding our patron, it will be both an honour and privilege to meet him in person.

    Great News.

Here is a pic of AG in Spain on the far right testing with the military in around late 52/early 1953 with an 80 (and prototype 86) that lead to the set up of CKD plant in Spain.

He has a lot of amusing stories.
