Note - the clever mutation of a second trunk is to stop smaller SUVs (Sportages etc) trying to sneak past between their legs......... Or so I believe.

A Mrs Ward and her young children were driving this Land Rover along a rural road early in the Rhodesian bush war (1973) when it hit a land mine - the first of many. Mrs Ward managed to pull her children safely from the wreck but died from her own wounds later on. The wreck was taken to a special engineering site and carefully examined to see what might be learned from it. It was subsequently spirited off to South Africa for further investigation and from that evolved a sequence of anti-mine vehicles including several variants based on Land Rover running gear and the better known Casspir and Buffel trucks that were used for the South African border war and exported all over Africa.
