    Keep the dream alive

    Hello again (chaps) from Brisbane.

Who says we don't give a stuff about protocol or dress sense (well actually Mrs S3ute and Ms S3ute I suppose, but that's beside the point)?

It is encouraging that we rejoice in our right to free speech - I think this was the point of the Brandis F-I-M exercise. But I still disagree with the concept of freestyle in the old pith selection. Standards and all - Stanley Baker would have looked like a complete goose in Zulu if he had turned up on the day wearing a fedora - point made.

But, I welcome an eclectic approach to clubmanship and attire - personally don't have a helmet per se but prefer to wander the veld in a collapsible japara jungle hat. Now, admittedly, this looks for all the world like a buffalo turd, but it has functionality on its side. And when staring down old J-Bo at close range it is poise rather than style that usually wins the day.

Then again, SLOW is a condominium of taste, style and purpose - so let the mob decide.

    Cheers,

    Neil

    Hello again.

Point taken on gender equity - harrumph!

Re the above mentioned kit. I should think he would look quite the dashing dandy in that sort of get up - appropriately cool for Coolah or Coolatai?

    Cheers,

    Neil

I don't know, but would love to find out.
As stated, it is the freedom to not have to comply with dress regulations that makes us a great club. Why, someone even once turned up to a Black Tie Dinner wearing an Hawaiian shirt.

    Cheers, Mick.

    Stuff of Empire

    Hello again from Brisbane.

If Empire's your thing and you sometimes wonder how come half the world was historically depicted in red on older atlases, you might like to read the likes of Victoria's Soldiers and Running the Show.

Getting it red and keeping it that way for a couple of centuries was largely the result of, but not exclusively, having cheap cannon fodder in the form of the various highland regiments led by warrior generals of the likes of (General Sir Robert) Fighting Bob Campbell hero of Balaclava, Cawnpore and Lucknow.

Running it fell to the oddest collection of misfits, buccaneers, opportunists, madmen, eccentrics and the odd honest and extremely capable administator.

All good Boys (and Girls) Own stuff.

Back to packing - where's that damn smoking jacket and crate of frogs....

    Cheers,

    Neil

Rowan, you must have long arms and legs, to be able to drive from that position.

    Cheers, Mick.
