I was rewiring the headlights and spotlights at the same time so it was no issue running dedicated circuits for the thermos. Also this way I knew the cable was more than rated for the thermos. I'm a bit of an electronics nerd too so I was going to make a thermofan / dual battery controller with a temperature and voltage readout. I killed the MCU for my project so I ended up using a jaycar temp controller in the meantime (this way I have the cables ready if I ever get round to installing my unit) and used a traxide SC80 for the batteries. Both units have been great so far.

After completion of my install I found an ingenious way of running the fans at a two speed setting using three relays (series then parallel). When I'm finished with the house (never at this rate) Ill try running the fans this way two reduce the fans switching on and off and keep a more stable temp. No real need to do this other than I can and it would be cool .

You can buy them cheap brand new usually under $200, i think the key with thermo's is to have good shrouding so that the fans draw in the correct amount of air. The ford twin fans come in a proper shroud that is the perfect size for a Rangie/ disco V8 radiator with some minor trimming.

Stick with the viscous. They pull much more air than electric fans ever will. They are cheap to replace and usually don't give trouble.

They don't push more air actually, thermo's are a good idea and neither is more-less reliable than the other. Pat

this is a similar post to one of mine - i am going to fit a AU fords set up to my disco, I bought it from a cash and carry wreckers cost all of $50-00 so if I dont like it I haven't wasted any real money and if I do like it and it buggers up then I will buy a new one to fit.

apparently from one of the people who posted on mine (sorry I cant remember who) the Mondeo is a better and easier fit

    FYI
I contacted the mob who either make or import the TM2 engine saver, you can order it with optional relay output so you can drive a relay to control your thermo fans.

It must be ordered though as it is not standard but it doesn't cost any more.

I am going to order one and use it

Keep in mind that you can control each fan separately, which I think is preferable. Startup current for both at the same time would be quite high.

I'm looking for something like this:

    http://www.x-eng.co.uk/X-Fan%2034mm.asp

that I can run two thermo switches from. X - Eng ones come in 38mm too. Have seen one somewhere locally but can't remember where.

    cheers, DL

they look just a bit snazzy, perfect for two stage fan control or if you wanted to get smart three stage with the two fans

I've purchased the same thing of ebay for less than $30AUD delivered. Have a look around, they should be cheaper than that.
