Cool Burning plastic smell when starting demist

    Defender 110 - 2005

Not very often I use the demister, but it was raining, the windscreen started to fog and I set the heater knob (down) on the dash to heat and the other knob (up) to demist.
For the next three minutes a smell of hot or burning plastic came up then it disappeared.

    Any ideas ?

Kids find the darndest places to hide toys!! Think I prefer to dig a half eaten banana out of my VCR or DVD player than have to pull a heater out to investigate...

    Might be blower fan??

    Cheers

I wonder if it could be because it's hardly ever used (I leave in Nth Qld), and dust sets on the heating elements, then when you turn the heater on it burns those particles.
This is just a wild guess, I don't really know the mechanics of the heating system.

I'm going to turn on the heater tomorrow to see if it still does it.

It seems it was dust sediments. I tried it today and it's fine.
It's probably a good idea to use it every now and then to avoid the buildup of dust.
This might sound extreme, but I wonder if it could have the potential to start a fire.
