Replaced idler bearing on timing cover??

    Okay, howdy all

Anybody successfully changed the idler bearing on the timing belt cover on a 300tdi? I suspect after doing all of my preventative maintenance (ie new water pump, new belt tensioner, new belts and new 'p' gasket) that I've now got a new noise which sounds like it might be the idler bearing.

What makes me think that? Well, because when I replaced all said items above I noticed that the pulley on the timing belt cover had an out of round on it (even though it didn't have much wobble to and fro). This obviously explained why my old and new belt tensioner jumps up and down with the engine running.

As this timing belt cover was replaced with the last timing belt change by my mechanic, is it possible that they put a second hand cover on with a comensurate second hand bearing for the idler pulley?

What'sinvolved in changing the bearing or is this out of round a normal feature for the LR 300tdis?

    Cheers

Do you mean the bearing pressed into the timing cover that the viscous fan hub sits on?

Assuming that is the one, this tutorial by roverrescue is the go: http://www.aulro.com/afvb/projects-t...solutions.html

...and you can get a bearing from here if you choose that option: http://www.british4wd.com/xcart/prod...&cat=89&page=1
